BeginningReading.com is a phonics reading program. Many of the materials are free!

Although the information presented here is aimed primarily at classroom teachers, it can be easily adapted to a tutoring or homeschooling situation.

Learning to read is a complex process which happens in response to many experiences and learning opportunities. Kids are ready to begin reading at various ages depending on their emotional maturity, experience with oral language and experience with books and other printed materials.

Free Worksheets

child prints the letter several times in capital and lower case forms.
* Alphabet Set 2 each worksheet has a variety of letters on a page. The child
has to identify and circle each of the capital and lower case examples of the
letter being learned. There is also a review of letter printing.

identify and circle items starting with the letter being learned.

letter words. These work best when printed on heavyweight paper.

Then the child colors a large picture associated with the sentences he or she

illustrations.
* Fun Book - Blackline black and white version of Lively Butterflies book
described in preceding paragraph!
* Number Writing each worksheet introduces a number (for numbers 1-10) and the
