Information on using online software
- Do not go directly to a company's web site if you plan to use the free service.
You must use the link provided on the Vermont Department of Taxes or IRS website.

- The IRS does not endorse Refund Anticipation Loans (RALs) or any other advance

IRS e-file Options For:
Individual Taxpayers
- File your 2008 Individual Income Tax Return electronically (available through
October 15, 2009).
- You can file online for free through the Free File program.
Business and Self-Employed Taxpayers
- Electronic filing and payment options for businesses including employment taxes,
information returns, partnerships, corporations, and estates & trusts.
- Includes information on the new Modernized e-File (MeF) program for partnership
returns, Forms1065/1065-B.
Large and Mid-Size Corporations
- Certain large and mid-size corporations are required to electronically file
their Forms 1120 and 1120-S, while others may do so voluntarily. We've included
information for corporations who prepare and transmit their own corporate
returns and for those using the services of third-party tax professionals.
E-File - Using a Tax Professional
- If you use a tax preparer, check to see if he or she is a participating
Fed/State E-File preparer so you can have your returns electronically filed.
Payment Options
E-File & ACH Debit
- Taxpayers can pay the tax at the time the return is electronically filed. You
can also schedule the payment date.
VT Pay
- Whether you electronically file or file by paper, you can use this on-line
credit card payment system available through the Vermont Department of Taxes'
web site. There is a convenience fee charged by the credit card processor for
payments over $200.
Check or Money Order
- For electronic filing - Remit your payment with Form IN-116. This assures the
payment is credited to the correct tax account and tax year.
