Individual Income Tax Online Filing Log On

The Taxpayer Service Center is the District's online tax filing service. This site allows taxpayers to file their individual income tax returns online for the current tax year.

Simply log on using your Social Security Number and the Federal Adjusted Gross Income you entered on last year's DC tax return (form D-40EZ, line 3 or form D-40, line 3). If you did not file your 2007 tax return (D-40 or D-40EZ), you will not be able to file online this time. Click here to download the tax forms if you wish to file a paper return.

Partially completed returns can be saved. You may return any time to complete your tax return.

You can now view your refund status online, please see Refund Status Inquiry.

Payment Options for Individual Income Tax

To make paying taxes more convenient and hassle-free, the Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) allows the use of electronic checks and credit cards, in addition to making payment by mail, when paying declarations of estimated tax for individuals, current individual income taxes owed to the District, or past due income taxes.

OTR will receive the electronic check/credit card transaction from the vendor and immediately apply it to the taxpayer's account. Official Payments Corporation will charge taxpayers a nominal fee for the credit card transaction based on 2.5 percent of the transaction amount.

Individual Income Tax Payment/Refund Questions
To whom do I make my payment payable?

Make your check or money order payable to the "DC Treasurer". Do not send cash.
Write your Social Security number, daytime phone number, tax year of the
return, and the return type (D-40, D-40EZ, etc.) on your payment.

How do I request an extension of time to file my individual income tax return?

If you require more time to file your return, submit an extension of time to
file request, Form FR-127, on or before April 15. Any tax due must be paid in
full with the request. Penalty and interest will be assessed on any tax
outstanding from the time that the return is due until the tax is paid, even if
an extension to file is granted. (There is no extension of time to pay.) A copy
of the federal application for an extension of time to file is not acceptable
for requesting an extension of time for filing a DC return.

By filing a timely Form FR-127, plus any payment due with the extension, you
have a 6-month extension of time to file until October 15. In addition to this
initial extension, you may receive, upon request, an additional 6-month
extension if you are living or traveling outside the United States.

Will I be penalized if I am due a refund, but my return is filed late?
No, you have three (3) years from the due date of the return to file for a
refund.
