Individual Income Tax Return Electronic Filing Options
* I-File - Indiana Electronic Filing Program
This program will allow you to file your IT-40, IT-40EZ, IT-40PNR, or
IT-40RNR directly through the Internet. More than 100,000 taxpayers did in
2008. I-File allows you to make a partial or total payment by using a major
credit card.
To use I–File, you must
* Have filed an individual income–tax return previously with the State of
Indiana.
* Have the same legal name that you used last year to file your taxes with
the State of Indiana.
Do I have to mail anything to the Indiana Department of Revenue if I file
electronically?
You do not need to mail anything to the Indiana Department of Revenue if you:
* Are due a refund from the state, and I–File did not prompt you to send in
additional information.
* Owe the state and pay the full amount due online.
You do need to send information to the Indiana Department of Revenue if you:
* Owe the state and decide to make a partial payment online or choose not to
pay online at all. If you fall into one of these two categories, you will
need to print your return. A Post Filing Coupon will be included in the
print–out. Detach the coupon and include it with your check or money order
for the total amount owed by April 15, 2009, to avoid late fees and
penalties.
* Claim certain credits or deductions that require more information to be
sent to the Indiana Department of Revenue. NOTE: I–File will prompt you if
you take a credit or deduction that requires further documentation. Please
read the prompts and post–filing instructions carefully to find out if you
need to send information to the Indiana Department of Revenue.
How do I amend or correct a return I filed electronically?
* To correct any discrepancies, please print, complete and mail the Amended
Individual Income Tax Form IT–40X to:
Indiana Department of Revenue
