Welcome to WebFile

WebFile allows you to securely file a Kansas Individual Income tax return online. It's fast, easy and free for most filers. When your filing is complete, you will receive a confirmation screen that you may print for your records. 2008 returns must be filed and paid no later than April 15, 2009.

* Who Can Use WebFile?
All Kansas residents and non-residents may use WebFile, even if you itemize
deductions.

You may not file an extension, a Homestead Refund Claim (K-40H), or use
WebFile if you have a Kansas adjusted gross income of greater than
$9,999,999.

* What You Will Need to File
* Your personal identification number (PIN) or last year’s refund or
balance due amount. Use your adjusted refund or balance due amount if
you filed an amended return.
* If you are a Kansas resident and a first time filer, you will need
information from your W-2 form.
* A completed 2008 Federal income tax return, if you are required to file.
* All of your W-2 statements.
* A Web browser that can handle 128-bit encryption (since this is a secure
site). This includes most U.S. versions of Internet Explorer, Netscape,
Mozilla, Opera, Safari, and other browsers.
* Some state and Federal tax forms are available online only as Adobe PDF
files. If you don't have it already, you may need to download the free
Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print these files.
* A printer if you want to print your filing confirmation page, a summary
of your filing, a payment voucher form, or tax schedule forms.

* Payments
For a balance due (if you owe), the accepted payment methods are

* electronic check
* credit card / debit card (VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or American
Express)
* or print a Adobe PDF file payment voucher form (PDF file) and mail it
with a personal check or money order.

"Electronic check" is the term for using a checking or savings account to
make a payment on the Internet. You will need to enter appropriate account
information to validate the account. The account used must have sufficient
funds to cover the transaction cost at the time the account is debited.

Electronic check payments are free, and your account will not be debited
until April 15, 2009 or earlier if you specify. Credit card payments require
a transaction fee, and your credit card is charged immediately.

* Refunds
If your filing results in an overpayment, you may have your refund directly
deposited into your checking or savings account, or you may have a check
mailed to your home address.

You may check your Refund Status online

* 2008 Amended Filings
You may use WebFile to file an amendment to your 2008 tax return. (You
cannot file amendments online for other tax years.) If you filed your
original return using WebFile, login using the "Saved Filing" button on the
left side of this page. If you have not used WebFile this year, login using
the "2008 Filing" button on the left side of this page. After you
successfully login, select filing a 2008 amended return and your reason for
amendment on the "Filing Info" page. Then, enter your information (including
your changes) as you would for a regular filing.

KS Webtax - Your link to Online Business Tax Filing

KS Webtax

Securely manage your business tax accounts online. Make electronic payments; file your Sales, Use or Franchise tax return and view your online activity in one system under the security of your own password. Refer to this page for updates as new services are added.

Account Management

The Online Business System allows you to list all of your business tax accounts in one directory. After registering and creating your user ID and password, you can organize your account directory by entering the employer identification number (EIN) or license number and the specific personal identification number (PIN) related to each tax type. Once you have added your accounts, you will never be asked to enter the PIN again. Professional accounting and payroll services can list all of their clients under one or multiple User ID’s and Passwords. The following tax types can be added to your account directory:

* ABC Distributors
* Consumer’s Compensating Use
* Corporate Income
* Franchise
* Liquor Drink
* Liquor Enforcement
* Mineral (EFT Only)
* Motor Carrier Property Tax
* Motor Fuels (EFT Only)
* Privilege
* Retailer’s Compensating Use
* Retailers’ Sales
* Withholding

Electronic Funds Transfer Payments

This system gives you the capability to make electronic payments using the Automated Clearing House (ACH) Debit method for transfer. Under this method, you authorize the Department of Revenue to electronically transfer your tax payment from your depository into the State’s account. You will be asked to provide the financial routing information that is necessary to perform the transaction. Once provided, the information will be retained in the system but will never be displayed back to you in entirety for increased security. You can delete or edit your financial information as the need arises. EFT payments can be initiated for all tax types accepted for management in your account directory.

Sales and Use Tax Returns

File the ST16 (single jurisdiction) or ST36 (multiple jurisdictions) Retailers’ Sales Tax return online and receive real-time confirmation of your transaction. You can also file the CT9U (Retailer’s) or CT10U (Consumer’s) Compensating Use tax returns. When you select to file your tax return, the system will provide you the correct online form at your required filing status. Your filing status (frequency) is determined by statute and is based on your annual sales or use tax liability. If your filing status changes at the start of the calendar year, the online system will automatically adjust for the change, but will still allow you to file for a prior period at the old status if you find it necessary to file a past due or amended return.

The online system allows you to manually enter your information, saving and storing until the time you are ready to submit your return. Otherwise, if you report collections in multiple jurisdictions and compile your data in a computer-based spreadsheet, you can upload your information in a simple to format file from your desktop folder to the online application.

Kansas law requires that you submit a tax return even when you have no activity to report. The online system makes it easy to file a zero-based tax return. Simply select your filing period and check “No activity” and continue to easily submit your return.

The ACH Debit method is included as a payment option giving you the capability to electronically “file and pay” in one system application. You can also pay electronically as an ACH Credit, instructing your bank to transfer funds from your account to the State’s account utilizing the required payment format. Otherwise, a completed payment voucher will be provided for print and submission along with your check or money order.

Franchise Tax

Pay the tax and file the K-150, Franchise Tax Return online. Business entities that have $1,000,000 of net worth or more in the state must pay to the Kansas Department of Revenue a franchise tax of 0.125% of the total net worth. The maximum tax amount to be paid is $20,000. An online balance sheet is included that accompanies your K-150 tax return.

The Franchise Fee ($55) and accompanying annual report must be submitted to the Kansas Secretary of State. Both may be submitted online through the Kansas Business Center.

Both the Franchise tax and fee are due the 15th day of the fourth month following the tax year end—e.g. April 15, 2005 for entities with a December 31 tax year end.

Sales Tax Exemption Certificate

The sales tax Exemption Certificate application allows sales tax exempt entities to apply for an exemption certificate, update name and address information on existing certificates, inform the department of an organization's disbanding, and provides the ability for an exempt entity to print a copy of their exemption certificate.

Additional "Help"

The KS Webtax management system provides ‘Help’ and additional information throughout the application that is specific to your online task.
